"
Not even in a hundred years of the God's could I tell you
the glories of the Himalaya. "
(The Puranas)
"There is a mountain in the north , ensouled by Divinity,
named Himalaya, the King of all mountains. Stretching from
east to west coasts, it is located on the earth as a measuring
rod."
( Poet Kalidas)

Among
all the ranges the Himalaya is the mightiest. The Himalaya
proper with its great peaks, Kailash, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna,
Kanchenjunga, Everest, Chomolhari, Nanda Devi, Kamet, Nun-Kun,
is limited to the mighty bulging arc of the snowy range
between Naga Parbat and Namcha Barwa in Tibet.
The Himalaya is also known as Dev Bhoomi (The Abode of Gods).
Indian Himalaya does have some of the most beautiful and
highest mountains in the world; the most dramatic river
valleys and gorges; a profusion of wild flowers and unique
fauna; quiet places for reflection and meditation; fascinating
hill stations; laidback traveller's centers like Mcleod
-Ganj, Manali, Manikaran, Leh & Rishikesh; exhilarating
river rapids; extraordinary temple complexes and ornate
and colourful gompas(Monasteries).
The Himalaya(Abode of Snow) protects India by sending the
great rivers such as the Sindhu, the Ganga,Yamuna and the
Brahmaputra perennially fed by melting ice and irrespective
of the monsoon rains.
The Budhhist Gompas of the Indian Himalaya remain repositories
of rich Tibetan culture, resplendent with vibrantly coloured
prayer rooms and exquisitely embroidered thangkas(Religious
paintings). Festivals celebrated according to the Tibetan
Lunar calendar afford unique opportunities to witness the
pomp and pageant of this living religion.
